View 2 Vintage Japan Postcards 1928 1938 Mt Fuji Hand Painted Tokaido Okitsu Ukiyo-e with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. Beautiful atmospheric view of snow-capped Mount Fuji with water, sailboats, torii gate, trees and a winding path in the foreground. The Mount Fuji card has noticeable corner/edge wear, including paper loss at the upper left corner, surface wear and small losses. Wonderful lot of two early Japanese postcards, both mailed from Japan before World War II and retaining their original Japanese postage stamps and cancellations. Mount Fuji Scenic Postcard — Nagasaki, 1928 Beautiful atmospheric view of snow-capped Mount Fuji with water, sailboats, torii gate, trees and a winding path in the foreground. The surface appears to have been hand-painted or extensively hand-colored/overpainted, with visible brushwork and textured areas of pigment rather than simply printed color. The card was mailed from Nagasaki, Japan, April 25, 1928, to Mrs. B. E. Sampson in Houston, Texas. The handwritten message is signed “James” and mentions leaving Nagasaki for Manila aboard the Chaumont, giving the card especially nice period travel history. Tōkaidō / Okitsu Ukiyo-e Postcard — Yokohama, 1938 The second card reproduces a traditional Japanese ukiyo-e landscape depicting Okitsu (興津), one of the historic stations along the Tōkaidō road connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto. Japanese lettering on the face includes 東海道五十三次之内, referring to the celebrated “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō” subject made famous by 19th-century ukiyo-e artists including Utagawa Hiroshige. The scene shows travelers and a pack horse in the foreground, distinctive pine trees and mountains beyond. This is a vintage postcard reproduction of an earlier Japanese print/design, not an original Edo-period woodblock print. This card was mailed from Yokohama, Japan, September 28, 1938, to the same recipient, then living in Galena, Illinois. It retains two attractive red Japanese 3-sen postage stamps and its handwritten message, also signed “James.” Condition: Both cards show age and handling consistent with their approximately 90–100 years of history. The Mount Fuji card has noticeable corner/edge wear, including paper loss at the upper left corner, surface wear and small losses. The Tōkaidō card has rounded/softened corners, edge wear, toning and general surface wear. Both have writing, stamps and postal cancellations as shown.
