Adorable vintage ceramic dog salt and pepper shaker set , made in Japan. This matching pair features two whimsical long-eared puppy/spaniel-style dogs with wonderful hand-painted facial expressions and classic mid-century coloring. Each dog has a glossy white body with orange/brown painted ears and hair, bright yellow and black eyes, black paw details, and a colorful collar/bow accent. One dog wears green , while the larger companion has a blue accent. Their exaggerated eyes and expressive faces give them lots of vintage character. Both shakers have dispensing holes on the tops of their heads and retain their cork stoppers on the bottoms . The bases are hand marked “JAPAN.” Approximate size: Larger dog: approximately 3¼" tall Smaller dog: approximately 2¾" tall Condition: Good vintage pre-owned condition. I do not see any obvious major chips, cracks, breaks or repairs in the photographs. There is overall age-related crazing to the glaze , which is particularly visible on the white areas and is common on vintage ceramic pieces of this age. There may also be minor paint wear, small marks and manufacturing irregularities consistent with age and hand decoration. The original cork stoppers show age and wear but remain present.
