ORIGINAL CIRCA 1920 SOVIET PROPAGANDA POSTER — LENIN / VIKTOR DENI ORIGINAL EARLY SOVIET PROPAGANDA POSTER — CIRCA 1920 THIS IS NOT A MODERN REPRODUCTION. Offered here is a striking original early Soviet-era propaganda poster depicting Vladimir Lenin standing atop the globe and sweeping away representatives of the old political and social order with a red broom. The poster bears the famous Cyrillic inscription: “Тов. Ленин очищает землю от нечисти.” “Comrade Lenin Cleanses the Earth from Scum.” This is the historic image associated with Viktor Deni (1893–1946) and Mikhail Cheremnykh (1890–1962) and is one of the recognizable images of early Soviet revolutionary propaganda. HISTORICAL INFORMATION The Russian State Library catalogs a 1920 example of this same historic poster design  as a 1920 multicolor chromolithograph , published in Kazan by t he Political Department of the Reserve Army of the Republic and the Political Directorate of the Volga Military District.  The documented example measures approximately 68.2 × 44.2 cm (26.9 × 17.4 inches) . Other institutional records document examples of the same poster from the early Soviet period. This poster image originated during the revolutionary period and depicts Lenin symbolically sweeping the representatives of the old order from the Earth. The figures include monarchs and other representatives of the former political, economic and social establishment. ORIGINAL PERIOD POSTER — NOT A MODERN REPRODUCTION Please pay particular attention to this distinction.  Modern reproductions of this famous Lenin poster are readily available today, including newly printed decorative examples.  This listing is for the aged period poster shown in the photographs — it is NOT a newly printed reproduction.  The poster exhibits extensive characteristics of age, including pronounced overall toning, foxing/staining, surface wear, edge deterioration and areas of paper loss. The printing and physical characteristics are consistent with an old period example rather than a modern decorative reproduction. The poster is being offered as an original period example, circa 1920 , based upon its physical characteristics, appearance, dimensions and comparison with documented examples. It has not been professionally authenticated, and I am not representing it as a certified or authenticated first printing.
