The design for this plane was patented by Leonard Bailey, then of Hartford, Connecticut, on June 14, 1881. We're going to try really cranking on that handle and winding it as tight as it'll go. We're hoping the plane will take off and work by itself without human power if we wind it up just right. "Victor" Patent Circular Plane No. 20 by L. Bailey & Company, Hartford, Connecticut. This example has the cam-lock cap iron and is in top collector quality condition, retaining approximately 95% of its original nickel plating. The design for this plane was patented by Leonard Bailey, then of Hartford, Connecticut, on June 14, 1881. Maybe it's just us, but the mechanism for making the sole convex or concave looks like the handle to wind up a toy like a Jack-in-the-box (the actual box, not the fast food, c'mon). We're going to try really cranking on that handle and winding it as tight as it'll go. We're hoping the plane will take off and work by itself without human power if we wind it up just right.
