This example retains a particularly attractive amount of its original reflective silvering, especially around the head and hindquarters. The body has developed the wonderful cloudy, aged appearance characteristic of early silvered glass. Antique German Hand-Blown Silvered Mercury Glass Reindeer / Stag Figurine Beautiful antique German glass reindeer or stag featuring delicate hand-worked construction, elaborate branching antlers, clear glass legs and ears, painted facial details, and an original silvered or “mercury glass” style finish. This example retains a particularly attractive amount of its original reflective silvering, especially around the head and hindquarters. The body has developed the wonderful cloudy, aged appearance characteristic of early silvered glass. The figure stands on an integral rectangular glass base and retains its original circular “MADE IN GERMANY” paper label. These delicate German lampworked deer are frequently associated with early German glassmaking traditions and are commonly described by collectors as Bimini-style / Lauscha-style glass. Approximate Measurements: Height: 5" from base to highest antler tip Base length: 2 3/4" Base width: 1 1/2" Condition: Very good antique condition. The delicate glass antlers, ears, legs and integral base appear intact with no obvious chips or breaks observed. There is expected age-related deterioration, clouding and loss to portions of the original interior silvered finish. This example retains a significant amount of bright reflective silvering, particularly around the hindquarters and head. Minor surface wear and wear to painted details are consistent with age. Original Made in Germany paper label remains attached. Because these pieces are entirely handmade, small irregularities in the glass, joints and form are inherent to their manufacture and add to their character.
