A sharp example of Ronson’s slim postwar Adonis lighter, with the clean chrome finish and understated styling that made this model one of the company’s better-looking pocket lighters of the 1950s.   Ronson introduced the Adonis in 1947, and period catalogs continued offering the model through the 1950s. A 1954 jewelry catalog described the Adonis as a “Satin and Bright Finish” model, while a 1957 catalog called it “beautifully slim with tapered edges.” That is exactly what gives this lighter its appeal today—the design is compact and refined without looking overly ornate.   This example has a silver/chrome-tone finish with fine horizontal line detailing across the lower front and a blank rectangular monogram panel that was never personalized. That unengraved panel is a nice feature for collectors, since so many surviving vintage pocket lighters were engraved with initials or names.   The underside is clearly marked RONSON ADONIS / NEWARK N.J. U.S.A. and carries U.S. Patent 2,481,195.
