This is not Konyu’s standard signature. This tea bowl was created by Konyu, the 12th generation head of the Raku family, and given the poetic name 'Becoming Ice' by the 12th generation Iemoto of the Omotesenke school of tea. The Raku seal is impressed on the base, which is additionally inscribed 十二代造, meaning 'Made by the Twelfth Generation.' This is not Konyu’s standard signature. Rather than relying solely on the traditional Raku seal, he also incised an explicit statement of authorship and lineage into the clay. Such an inscription is rarely encountered on his tea bowls. A rare opportunity to acquire a tea bowl by the original Raku family, bearing an inscription by an Omotesenke Tea School Grand Master. Size Height 8cm  Width 13cm The bowl has kintsugi repairs carried out by Megumi Shimamoto, one of Japan’s leading Kintsugi artists.  Comes with a wooden box signed and sealed by Raku Kichizaemon Konyu  (1857-1932), with an inscription by Seisai (1863-1937), the twelfth-generation grand master of the Omotesenke school of tea. The inscription identifies the piece as a white Raku, salt-textured tea bowl made by Konyu and records its poetic name, 'Becoming Ice' (Ihyo). The box (with minor damage) was made by Ichise Kohei, a member of a prestigious family of Kyoto cabinetmakers with a history spanning more than 200 years.
