One 1887 crucifix with the star pattern rays behind the head of Christ is 4 7/8" inches in length, 2 7/16" inches in width, and 1/4" inch thick.  During the earlier creation of these Pectoral artifacts there are no labels stamped into the metal or the wood as to the country of manufacture or type of wood used. This crucifix shows its natural wear and age patina making it a valuable collectible for those interested in Christian religious artifacts. It features intricate inlaid ebony hardwood with the Golgotha skull and cross-bones, representing resurrection and the sacred heart surrounded by the crown of thorns.  The larger early 1900's Pectoral crucifix with the Prussian Iron Cross usage dates from 1830- imbedded in the rays behind the head of Christ is the symbol of origin for the time and possibly only seen up until the end of WWI. This crucifix measures 5 1/2" inches in length, 2 11/16" inches in width, and  1/4" inch thick. It too features the intricate  inlaid ebony hardwood with the Golgotha skull and cross-bones, representing resurrection and the sacred flaming heart with sword surrounded by the crown of thorns. The 1890's enactment of country of origin labeling laws are around the dates shown here, the world was in turmoil at these times and there was a transition period before manufacture ideology caught up with its actual use and enforcement. The mixture of materials and the details of these two pectoral crucifixes give a wonderful meaning to those who who have a deep spiritual appreciation for religious artifacts and would make a special antique addition to their collection.
