This is vintage Fine Bone China teacup and saucer manufactured in Japan between 1922-1944. It is hand painted and depicts a Japanese house sitting near water with flowering trees. The colorful flowers on the trees and trim are done in the moriage style. The colors are vibrant and distinct. The cup measures 2" in height and 3 3/4" in diameter. The saucer measures 5 3/8 in diameter. They are in excellent condition Several methods were used to achieve the highly identifiable relief effect best known to moriage. The decorative elements were designed separate from the body of the piece and applied to the existing piece or carefully piped on in narrow ribbons of clay after the body was made. The piece’s designs could have been “slip-trailed” or built up by the act of brushing on successive layers of liquified slip (wet clay) to gain the desired effect. Condition: Used.
