Antique 1/2 Plate Tintype Mother, Father With Big Mustache, Two Sons 1800s Description The four individuals, two standing, two seated, suggest a family or close-knit group.  The symmetrical pose and direct gaze into the camera reflect conventions of studio portraiture. The men's suits with high collars, and neckwear suggest a post-Civil War era, possibly 1870s - 1880s.  The absence of facial hair on some may hint at later Victorian trends or youth. The woman's dress features a detailed bodice, full skirt, and accessories, brooches and lace, consistent with mid-to-late Victorian fashion.  Her hairstyle also helps narrow the date, center parts and pinned-up styles were common in the 1870s. A unique find, for sure! Measures approx. 4-1/2" x 6-1/2"  Condition Rough condition. Very scratched. Crease in upper right corner.
