Antique Chinese Blue & White Square Dish - Undulating Rim - Eight Immortals - Kangxi Mark Item Overview A sophisticated Late Qing Dynasty style porcelain square tray featuring a graceful undulating / wavy rim. This piece is a beautiful example of the of what i believe is the Kangxi Revival aesthetic, characterized by its fine underglaze blue painting set against a Probable Ge-type crackle glaze. The Wavy rim seems to be a deliberate choice of the artist in order to add the the turbulent sea the immortals seem to be on. Key Features & Narrative • Central Motif: A masterfully hand-painted scene of the "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea" (Baxian guohai). The artwork captures the legendary Daoist figures navigating turbulent waves, each with their signature magical attribute. • The Rim: Unlike standard sharp-edged plates, this dish features a softly waved, undulating edge. The rim is finished with a traditional iron-oxide (brown) wash, which provides a sharp visual contrast to the blue and white palette and highlights the unique square-waisted silhouette. • The Glaze: Most probably A classic "Ge-ware" style crackle glaze which provides a deliberate, web-like texture that gives the piece an ancient "scholar’s object" feel. However it could be an older piece with natural crazing. Although i’m not certain of that so i must default to the newer production technique. • The Mark: The underside bears a high-quality six-character underglaze blue Kangxi reign mark (Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi) within a double circle. Specifications • Form: Square with undulating/wavy sides. • Dimensions: Approx. 7” x 7”. • Material: Hand-painted porcelain with iron-dressed rim. • Estimated Age: Qing Dynasty (c. 1899 or Earlier) Condition Report Excellent antique condition.
