In one hand she holds a closed parasol or umbrella pointed downward toward the ground, almost as a walking accessory. Vintage vanity powder jar featuring a clear ribbed, footed body and metal-trimmed mirrored lid. The lid is decorated with a detailed engraved period lady wearing a full skirt and fitted bodice. In one hand she holds a closed parasol or umbrella pointed downward toward the ground, almost as a walking accessory. Her opposite arm is raised, with what appears to be a small purse or handbag hanging downward from her hand. The engraving gives the piece a distinctive Victorian-inspired appearance. The underside of the removable lid contains a round mirror. Inside, the jar retains its perforated powder sifter and fabric-covered powder puff, with vintage cosmetic powder residue still present. An unusual metal mounting assembly is attached to the top of the lid. It consists of a cylindrical base with a pivoting/swiveling joint and a long threaded shaft. The shaft moves freely at the joint from an upright position to approximately horizontal. A decorative component that originally threaded onto the shaft is missing. The exact original component is unknown, and no attempt has been made to replace it. A distinctive vintage vanity piece retaining its mirror, powder sifter and puff, with an especially attractive engraved lady design and unusual pivoting lid hardware.
