Beautiful vintage lavender jade and amethyst bracelet set in 925 sterling silver. It features five polished curved lavender jade sections with four square-cut purple amethysts in between. The soft lavender jade and deeper purple amethyst make a really beautiful combination. The clasp is a fold over box design stamped 925 on the inside, pierced through with the Chinese character 福 (fú), meaning good fortune or blessing. This character is one of the most widely used auspicious symbols in Chinese design, seen on doorways, red envelopes, and jewelry as a wish for happiness for the wearer, and it is frequently mounted or hung upside down as a play on words, since the phrase for "upside down" sounds identical to the phrase for "arrived," turning an inverted fú into a small pun meaning fortune has arrived. Its placement on the clasp here, the part of the bracelet that closes around the wrist, was a common design choice in Chinese export jewelry meant to carry that blessing with the wearer.
