The interior bears a W&H Co. maker’s mark inside a heart-shaped cartouche. The locket opens on a hinged edge and retains an interior photo retaining ring. It measures approximately 1¼ inches in diameter (not including the top loop) and weighs 8.26 grams. The hand engraving appears to be intertwined initials and has the wonderful, slightly irregular character associated with period hand engraving. The locket shows genuine age and use, including surface scratches, patina, finish wear and areas of discoloration. There is also an open hole in one interior photo panel, clearly photographed.
