The result is that the design is fused between the 2 layers. The bottom layer contains bubbles and has a crinkly texture that feels smooth. The upper layer is crystal clear and smooth that is thick and heavy. Here is a beautiful Peggy Karr rectangular tray with a unique texture, color, and lots of bubbles from 2013. The glass tray is clear and decorated in blues, reds, yellows, oranges, greens, and brown with butterflies and flowers . Since it is translucent, this extraordinary piece shows off beautifully near light. The brilliant colors are fired at 1600 degrees F. between two layers of clear glass. Each piece has its own unique character of surface texture and bubbles. Peggy Karr Glass is food-safe, microwave warming and dishwasher-safe, a truly functional piece of art. It is 9.75 inches long and 5 7/8 inches across. It is signed on the bottom edge: P Karr 13. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or stains, appears unused. Will quickly ship USPS. Love to combine shipping. Thanks. History: Fused glass is made by taking 2 layers of clear glass and putting a design between them, then heating in an extremely hot kiln. The upper layer is crystal clear and smooth that is thick and heavy. Peggy Karr Glass was established in 1987 and is in New Jersey. The uniqueness at Peggy Karr Glass extends into the industrial side of their business. Peggy designed the kilns in the early 1990's specifically for their product. When the glass and color are heated to 1600° F they fuse together and form one piece of glass, sealing and protecting the design forever. Sadly, Peggy Karr glass closed its doors for good in 2016. Therefore, all first quality pieces immediately became more valuable as they would not be produced any longer. My shipping price includes my actual postage cost as well as packing/handling cost (bubble wrap, boxes, tape, envelopes, etc.) with transportation to post office and my time. It entails more than the postage stamp amount when it arrives to you. Also note that I recycle materials as much as possible - saving the environment.
