This is a set of four handcrafted antique Yemenite authentic red coral  Bedouin  beads which were  collected from Yemen and came from the same antique necklace.  This amazing antique Yemenite red coral bead set  is in great overall antique rustic condition with some wear and natural pitting.  This bead set weighs 9.3 grams and the largest antique red coral bead of the set measures 11.85mm long by 13.18mm wide.  Yemenite silversmithing goes back in time to the Queen of Sheba and the gifts of jewelry she gave to King Solomon. Later Islamic rule in Yemen imposed a prohibition on jewelry making for the Muslim population at which point Yemenite silversmithing became exclusively the domain of the Jewish community of Yemen. For centuries most of the tribally worn silver jewelry was made by Jewish silversmiths living in the country. These very talented silversmiths used a combination of geometric shapes, filigree work and granulation techniques to create a wide variety of amulets, bracelets, necklaces, chokers and rings. Very often they recycled silver coins and silver jewelry by melting them down to acquire the silver they worked with. Some of these Yemeni pieces have signatures of Hebrew names written in Arabic script also known as 'makers marks'.
