Vintage Native American Carved Totem Fetish Necklace - this item is a bit of a mystery, but talking to a few Santa Fe area experts this is what we are guessing: the fetish is carved from bone or horn, depicting a turtle on top, a bear in the middle and an owl on bottom. This originates from the Pacific Northwest or perhaps Alaska. The beads are brass and the greenish turquoise from the Southwest. Strung on a slightly waxed, knotted rope string, it fits over one's (average size) head - one can adjust the knot to adjust length. Age is difficult to guess, it may be the bone totem is older than the total piece - perhaps someone strung everything together in a secondary way. Carving measures 5.5" in length. I am putting this out there at less what I paid for it at an estate sale, as it is hard to assign origin or date. A neat piece though, with lots of character! Condition: Pre-owned.
