This is a pair of beautiful antique Art Deco style signed French cut steel shoe buckles, stamped "MB France" on the bar-back. This hand-crafted pair was likely made in the late 19th to early 20th century, although this type of ornate shoe accessory has been popular since the 1700s until the 1930s. This is a pair of beautiful antique Art Deco style signed French cut steel shoe buckles, stamped "MB France" on the bar-back. This hand-crafted pair was likely made in the late 19th to early 20th century, although this type of ornate shoe accessory has been popular since the 1700s until the 1930s. They were designed to attach to shoes, as a fun and easy way to glam up a plain pair of pumps. These quality made buckles are crafted from cut steel, as the name suggests, with small multi-faceted metal studs riveted into the steel base to create a marcasite-like metallic sparkle. The studs make up a dramatic geometric design against a black background. The steel frame is attached to a leather backing, with what appears to be a thin layer of black fabric on the back of the buckles to protect the shoe leather when worn. The buckle length is about 2 inches. The accessories appear to be in great antique condition. All of the metal studs are intact, as are the stamped functional original bar-backs. There is slight wear on the backing and slight all-over patina on the pieces, consistent with their age (see pictures). This elegant pair of antique shoe buckles is a rare wearable piece of history and would be perfect for discerning collectors, historical reenactors or as a theater costume accessory.
