A very rare early French textile, c 1910 .This impressive French textile is printed, not woven, and is executed on a heavy linen and cotton canvas ground, giving it wonderful weight, presence, and durability. Designed in a long vertical portière format, it was intended to hang in a doorway or along a wall, adding warmth, pattern, and architectural interest. The design features a tranquil verdure landscape with a central tree, layered foliage, small birds at ground level, and soft architectural elements in the distance. CONDITION: This lovely textile is in as found, not freshly cleaned condition. This textile is gently faded with time. It was once folded down the middle and right along that line, if you hold it up to the light, you will see tiny holes. There a few lightly seen on the surface when not held to the light ~ . There are signs of time and use visible to the reverse, consistent with a large historic printed textile of this scale. The front presentation remains very appealing and full of character.
