Both jars display distinctive dark, patterned bands around the shoulder and foot, while the dense network of crackling across the glaze provides the pieces with an intentionally aged and highly decorative appearance. The underside of each jar bears a four-character Chinese mark, 成化年製 (Chenghua Nian Zhi), traditionally translated as "Made during the Chenghua period."
