However, by the Edwardian era (1901–1910), fashion shifted toward the iconic "Gibson Girl" silhouette. This Antique Edwardian(? Or Victorian?) Mother of Pearl Shell Shield Shaped Sash Buckle Scarf Slide Pin is a vintage piece from the Victorian era, dating back to before 1920 (I believe). Handmade with a creamy white/beige shell material, this pin is a beautiful accessory. I don’t see any chips. During the mid-to-late Victorian era, women's dresses were incredibly heavy, featuring restrictive corsets and voluminous skirts. However, by the Edwardian era (1901–1910), fashion shifted toward the iconic "Gibson Girl" silhouette. Women began wearing separate blouses and long skirts, cinched tightly at the waist with wide fabric sashes, ribbons, or silk belts. The shield shape and minimal decoration on this piece reflect the Aesthetic Movement and early Art Nouveau influences of the era. This movement pushed back against artificial, machine-made goods.
