Beautiful vintage Fenton French opalescent hobnail art glass basket featuring a dramatically ruffled rim and applied clear bamboo-style handle. The soft milky opalescent glass has wonderful dimension, transitioning to clearer glass along portions of the basket and foot. The basket also shows a striking green fluorescence under UV light, particularly through the clear glass areas, as shown in the photos. An interesting original manufacturing feature can be seen in the center of the interior bottom. The small, smooth circular depression, approximately pencil-eraser size, is a molded feature from the pressed-glass manufacturing process rather than a drilled hole or later alteration. It is associated with the mold/plunger used to form the basket. The combination of French opalescent glass, raised hobnail texture, hand-shaped ruffled edge and clear applied bamboo handle makes this a beautiful example of mid-century American art glass. Approximately 6 in. tall. Likely dates to approximately the 1940s-1950s. Very nice vintage condition with light age-related wear. No chips or cracks noted.
