PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION The bowl is formed from fine white porcelain with a small circular foot and gracefully widening sides terminating in an extensively scalloped or serrated rim. The exterior has been individually hand painted with an elaborate garden composition. The principal decoration includes: Black and grey birds perched among flowering branches Large vivid orange blossoms White and pale pink flowers with finely painted centers Green leaves and delicate stems Expressively painted rockwork and branches in black and grey The birds are especially appealing, rendered with surprisingly fine detail to their feathers, eyes and individual postures. There is also chipping and a small loss along the delicate scalloped rim . The gilt edging shows expected rubbing and localized loss, although a substantial amount remains around the rim and continues to clearly define the scalloped form. The hand-painted decoration remains remarkably attractive, with strong orange, green, black and pale pink coloration. There is some expected surface wear, minor staining and small marks associated with age and use. The porcelain remains highly presentable despite the noted crack and rim damage.
