Symbolically, red represents Mother Earth and turquoise Father Sky. Extra large, heavy, and colorful vintage “pre-70’s” Zuni multi stone geometrical inlay sandcast ring. The silversmith starts with a very heavy old style sandcast sterling silver ring band. The artist attaches a deep smooth silver bezel and inlays Kingman turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, yellow shell, and black jet into a geometrical style inlay across the face of the ring. The artist adds decorative stamping on both sides with one side same as the other. The artist applies a bevel cut to the outer rim of the stones completely around the oval setting. The extra large ring face measures 1”⅜ by20mm across and it weighs a healthy 25.8 grams. Not all Native Americans make silver and turquoise jewelry. The tribes in the Southwest who are especially known for their jewelry are the Zuni, Hopi, Kewa (Santo Domingo) and Diné (Navajo). The Zuni are known for their very intricate stonework and almost never do plain silver jewelry.
