The backside of the piece features a simple straight pin with a modern locking clasp, which is marked 14k. This is a fabulous estate carved shell cameo of Hebes feeding Zeus' eagle ambrosia in a 14k gold frame in the form of a brooch. The scene depicts a young woman on one knee in a toga, pouring nectar from a pitcher into a dish, feeding a large eagle on a pedestal. The cameo is carved in shallow three-dimensional relief with an expert hand. The bezel around the cameo is framed by a petite beaded border and further framed by a rope motif on the edge of the brooch. The backside of the piece features a simple straight pin with a modern locking clasp, which is marked 14k. The pin and hardware appear to be original. We estimate the brooch to be made sometime in the late 1910s- early 1920s, but the shell cameo may predate the piece. Overall, the piece is in very good condition with minor surface wear throughout to note. There are a few small surface-level scratches to the shell. The gold has developed a slight bloom or patina, giving it a wonderful aged appearance. Please see all photos. This item is second hand and sold as-is.
