Antique 1910s General Store Interior Photo Clerks Dry Goods Clothing 7x9 RP Description Wonderful original antique photograph showing the interior of an early general merchandise, dry goods and/or clothing store, dating approximately to the early 20th century, likely circa 1905–1920. This is a particularly fascinating commercial interior with an incredible amount of period detail. Three men, presumably the store proprietor and clerks, pose toward the rear of the shop. One gentleman wears a suit, another appears in a cap and work clothes, while the third wears a large shop apron and bow tie. The store is packed from floor to ceiling with merchandise. Visible details include clothing and garments suspended overhead, gloves and other apparel, stacked boxes, glass display cases, shelving filled with merchandise, hanging lamps/lanterns and a very long wooden sales counter extending nearly the entire length of the shop. The glass display case at left appears to contain assorted small goods and accessories, while numerous small boxes are stored beneath it. The overall appearance suggests a traditional dry goods/general merchandise establishment, possibly with an emphasis on men's clothing and furnishings, rather than a store devoted exclusively to clothing. There is a partially visible handwritten sign at the upper left of the photograph. Unfortunately, much of it is cut off or overexposed and I cannot confidently decipher enough of the wording to identify the business or location. The photograph itself is mounted on a dark gray/black presentation board. Approximate overall size: 7" x 9" Photographer/location: No photographer or location is identified. A terrific piece of early American retail, occupational and commercial history, with an unusually detailed view of an old-fashioned store interior and its employees.  Condition Antique condition with expected age-related wear. The mount shows edge and corner wear, including losses/chipping at the corners and a crease/split near the upper left corner. There are additional minor surface and edge marks consistent with age. The photograph remains quite detailed, particularly through the center and rear of the store. The reverse is blank. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
