The body features detailed zoomorphic decoration with multiple animals among dense scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The dramatic elongated pouring lip has a distinctive scalloped/ruffled edge and raised linear detailing. Beautiful antique 8" Persian tinned copper ewer/pitcher, believed to date to the Qajar period, likely 19th century. This unusual small-form vessel measures approximately 8" high to the tip of the pouring lip and is extensively hand worked with chased, engraved and punched decoration. The body features detailed zoomorphic decoration with multiple animals among dense scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The dramatic elongated pouring lip has a distinctive scalloped/ruffled edge and raised linear detailing. An especially interesting feature is the separately made serpentine handle, which is riveted at the upper neck and intentionally terminates freely at the lower end. The upper portion incorporates a sculptural zoomorphic terminal, possibly bird or mythical-creature form. Constructed of copper with a tinned surface, the vessel displays extensive age-related wear to the tinning, revealing warm copper beneath. The underside has a separately constructed circular base with visible hand-worked/crimped construction. Interior and underside show oxidation, discoloration, tin loss and corrosion consistent with considerable age and use. No maker's mark or inscription has been located. Exact workshop or city of manufacture is unknown. Based on construction, materials, decoration and comparison with documented Persian examples, this is believed to be a Qajar-period/tradition piece, probably 19th century. Condition: Antique condition with substantial patina and surface wear, worn/lost tinning, exposed copper, oxidation/corrosion, scratches and other evidence of age and use. Please examine all photographs closely as they form an important part of the condition description. The piece has intentionally not been polished or restored. A striking and unusually elaborate example of Persian metalwork with wonderful age, sculptural form and animal decoration. D Category: Antiques › Asian Antiques › Middle East.
