Vintage Molded Pulp Papier-Mâché Halloween Jack-O'-LanternApproximate measurements: 7" tall 8" wide 6.5" deep Original molded-pulp Halloween jack-o'-lantern in the “Choir Boy” open-mouth style, believed to date to the 1940s–1950s. Approximately 7" tall, 8" wide and 6.5" deep.This pumpkin was actually used as a jack-o'-lantern. The interior still shows soot and carbon deposits from candles burned inside it many decades ago.It's an interesting survivor from an earlier version of Halloween. Long before the Halloween movies and much of the imagery we associate with the holiday today, pumpkins like this were being carried and lit with real candles. Being made from molded paper pulp, it's not difficult to understand why so many didn't survive.This one did.It remains in unrestored condition with its original orange and green finish. Age-related wear, fading and paint loss are present, along with damage to the upper right portion of the opening. The original wire handle and paper face insert are no longer present. Because this is an old and very lightweight molded-paper piece, it will be packed especially carefully with generous cushioning to protect it from crushing during shipment. Condition: Used.
