Striking large hand-built studio pottery lidded vessel / ceramic sculpture with an unusual architectural tower form. The underside of the lid and interior of the vessel feature a beautiful deep burgundy / oxblood-colored glaze, creating an unexpected contrast with the neutral exterior. The piece is constructed in a tall, slightly irregular geometric shape and topped with a removable sculptural roof-style lid. All sides are decorated with deeply incised linear detailing and raised elongated arched panels resembling windows, screens or architectural latticework. The exterior combines warm ivory and cream glazes with charcoal-black incised detailing, earthy tan accents and deep brick-red / burgundy glazed panels. Individual squares within the raised window-like sections feature additional impressed and carved decoration, giving the surface tremendous texture and visual interest. The removable lid has a broad architectural roof form with radiating hand-incised lines and a sculptural central finial. The underside of the lid and interior of the vessel feature a beautiful deep burgundy / oxblood-colored glaze, creating an unexpected contrast with the neutral exterior. The lower portion has a heavily textured cream surface with visible handmade construction and irregularities that emphasize its studio-crafted character.
