The original Air Jordan 5 was released in the 1989-1990 season. The first colorway, black/silver, was released in February 1990 and was worn by Jordan during the NBA All-Star Game. The design is by Tinker Hatfield, inspired by Jordan's playing style and the P-51 Mustang fighter plane from World War II. The shark-tooth-like design on the midsole is also inspired by the P-51. The "AIR JORDAN" notation on the back of the tongue is upside down, as it was intended to be worn with the tongue flipped inside out. This collaboration features an all-white upper with accents of red and silver. The SUPREME logo is placed on the side panels. The heel has been modified from Michael Jordan's number 23 to 94, representing the year SUPREME was established.
