Antique American Brilliant Period Cut Glass Propeller Bowl – Attributed to F.X. Parsche Offered is an exceptionally large and impressive antique American Brilliant Period (ABP) cut-glass centerpiece bowl measuring approximately 13 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep and weighing approximately 5 lbs. 14 oz. The bowl displays the elaborate Propeller pattern, featuring radiating pinwheel/propeller motifs, dense geometric diamond cutting, hobstars, starbursts and highly detailed prism and panel cutting. The cutting is exceptionally deep and intricate, producing the remarkable light refraction characteristic of high-quality American Brilliant cut glass. The pattern is attributed to F.X. Parsche & Co. of Chicago, a highly regarded American cut-glass firm whose production is strongly associated with Marshall Field & Co. during the American Brilliant Period. The American Cut Glass Association records that Parsche began producing cut glass in 1892 and that the firm's glass was primarily sold through Marshall Field & Co. Cut Glass Comparable Propeller-pattern pieces are documented in the marketplace and auction record as Parsche work produced for Marshall Field. This bowl is unsigned, so the Parsche identification is offered as an attribution based upon the pattern and construction rather than a surviving manufacturer's mark. The bowl retains its original form and has no apparent structural cracks, major chips, clouding or obvious restoration. The sawtooth/scalloped rim remains remarkably crisp for its age.
