A charming miniature porcelain bud vase made in Occupied Japan, dating to the 1945–1952 export period when Japanese goods bound for the United States were required to carry the "Made in Occupied Japan" mark. This piece carries that mark clearly stamped in orange-red on the underside of the foot. The vase takes a graceful baluster form — a bulbous lower body rising to a slender neck and a widely flared trumpet rim, all set on a stepped pedestal foot. A pair of pierced, openwork scroll handles sweep from the shoulder to the neck, giving the little vase an amphora-like silhouette that is far more elaborate than its size would suggest. The decoration is hand painted over the glaze. The front panel carries a full spray of blossoms — a large pink rose, a blue star-shaped flower with a yellow center, and a rising pink bud, all surrounded by soft green leaves and finished with fine gold outlining on the stems and foliage. The reverse is decorated more sparely with a single pink bud on a leafy stem, a nice touch that lets the piece read differently depending on how it is displayed. Bands of gold trim the rim edge, encircle the neck, and ring the foot, with additional gilt striping running down the outer face of each handle. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs observed. No crazing observed. Both pierced handles are fully intact with no losses to the openwork. The gold is worn, as is typical for hand-applied gilding of this period. Wear is most noticeable along the top edge of the flared rim, where the gold band has thinned and rubbed away in places, and along the raised edges of both handles. The gold bands at the neck and foot remain largely present with light rubbing. The hand-painted floral decoration is bright and well preserved with no significant paint loss. There is light tan and amber age speckling scattered across the body and handles, most visible near the handle joints and around the foot. The interior of the neck shows dust and light darkening consistent with age and storage. The underside is clean and the maker's mark is bold and fully legible.
