Beautiful large antique portrait in its original ornate Chicago Portrait Company Cathedral Design frame. The frame measures approximately 23" x 14" overall and features an elaborate gilt/gold-tone finish with raised floral ornament, decorative borders and original convex/bubble glass. The reverse retains the original Chicago Portrait Company label identifying this as "Cathedral Design" and stating "Design Patented June 24, 1924 — Made and sold by Chicago Portrait Company." The original manufacturer's markings and pricing information are also present on the wood backing. The portrait depicts a formally dressed gentleman and has the characteristic appearance of an early 20th-century Chicago Portrait Company enlarged photographic portrait. Condition: Vintage/antique condition consistent with age. The frame shows appropriate age-related wear, patina and finish loss.
