Colorful vintage Mexican folk-art pottery vase featuring a desert scene wrapping around the entire vessel. The hand-painted decoration includes a deer, bird, prickly pear cactus, agave/desert plants and stylized floral elements against a turquoise-blue field, surrounded by bold bands of orange, red, blue, cream and black. The upper shoulder is finished with an ornate scrolling border. The imagery and decoration are strongly associated with the pottery traditions of Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, where animal, bird and botanical motifs have long been incorporated into decorative earthenware.
