The sterling basket weighs 3.8 ounces, total weight with liner is 10.2 ounces. Welcome to Antiques & Moore!   This listing is for a beautiful antique Watson Company Sterling Silver Sugar Basket with pierced design and fitted cobalt glass liner, c. 1900. This lovely sugar basket is entirely pierced decorated with a paneled design and features a center cartouche with engraved monogram and stands on a pedestal base.  The silver is in excellent Estate condition reflecting very little use. The cobalt liner is a much deeper cobalt than appears in our photos and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The base of the basket is marked "Sterling" and numbered "2532" with early trademark stamp for the Watson Co.,  Attleboro, MA.  Measures 2 7/8" high (at bowl) and 6 1/4" high (with handle up), the top diameter is 4 1/2" and the base is 2 1/2" in diameter. The sterling basket weighs 3.8 ounces, total weight with liner is 10.2 ounces.  Sugar baskets began to be replaced in the early 19th Century when sugar bowls began to be designed as a part of tea and coffee services.  These delicate baskets have never lost their popularity with collectors and are highly collected today.
