Beautiful vintage CAMA Deruta Italian pottery pitcher featuring colorful hand-painted decoration in the classic Raffaellesco style. This striking pitcher is decorated with a fantastical winged dragon/bird motif surrounded by scrolling floral and foliate designs in rich shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow, rust red, green and black against a creamy white ground. Geometric borders encircle the upper and lower portions, while the large curved handle is beautifully decorated in turquoise, yellow and rust-red accents. The freehand brushwork and variations in the decoration give the piece the wonderful character associated with traditional Deruta pottery. The substantial sculptural handle and dramatically extended pouring spout make this especially attractive as a display piece. Marked “CAMA DERUTA” on the underside. Approximate measurements are shown in the photographs. The pitcher measures approximately 5" tall and approximately 9" from handle to tip of spout. Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. There is one small chip/nick on the inside edge of the upper rim, which has been photographed closely for full disclosure. Because of its location on the inner rim, it is not particularly noticeable when the pitcher is displayed. No cracks or repairs noted. As a hand-painted pottery piece, minor variations in the glaze, brushwork and finish are part of its handmade character.
