They may have originally belonged to a larger series of related Japanese export plates rather than being a matched three-piece set. Interesting group of three antique Japanese porcelain figural cabinet plates, likely dating to the late Meiji/early 20th-century period. Each plate features a different central black-and-white figural transfer or photographic-style image depicting Japanese women in traditional dress, surrounded by delicate hand-painted floral and foliage decoration in green, pink, yellow and other soft colors. Fine gilt bands accent the borders. Although similar in general style, the three plates have different central scenes and different floral border decoration. They may have originally belonged to a larger series of related Japanese export plates rather than being a matched three-piece set. The largest plate measures approximately 9-3/4 inches diameter. The two smaller plates each measure approximately 7-1/2 inches diameter. All three are unmarked on the reverse, so the exact Japanese maker or kiln is unknown. Estate-fresh antique condition with typical age-related wear throughout, including surface wear, scratches, rubbing and loss to portions of the painted and gilt decoration, along with minor manufacturing irregularities and signs of age.
