View US Navy Sailors Tropical Port White Uniform USS Hannibal 1930s - Original Photo with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. During the late 1930s, she made regular runs to ports such as Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Panama Canal Zone, and various island stations. When World War II broke out, the Hannibal continued vital logistical support operations. An original 4x2.5" vintage photo (NOT a modern reprint) from a sailor who served aboard the USS Hannibal from the 1920s and 1930s (mostly late 1930s). The owner of the photos appears to have been a John D, and he served aboard the USS Tennessee during WW2. Photo Overview A candid snapshot of four U.S. Navy sailors in tropical white dress uniforms gathered on a grassy waterfront, likely at a naval base in the Caribbean or Pacific. Palm trees and open water are visible in the background, suggesting a warm-weather port of call. The men appear relaxed and in good spirits, possibly lighting cigarettes or sharing a light moment ashore. One of the men wears the chevrons of a Chief Petty Officer on his sleeve. A fifth figure is partially visible at the far right edge of the frame, seated in a folding chair. During the late 1930s, she made regular runs to ports such as Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Panama Canal Zone, and various island stations. When World War II broke out, the Hannibal continued vital logistical support operations. She was eventually decommissioned in 1946 after more than four decades of service. Sailors who served aboard her during the late 1930s would have been on the cusp of the war years, with many going on to serve in combat theaters after Pearl Harbor. The relaxed tropical setting of this snapshot captures the quieter pre-war Navy life that would soon change dramatically for these men. Kodak Velox was a widely used developing-out paper produced from the early 20th century through the 1950s. The KODATONE designation and EKS stamp are consistent with Kodak paper products used in the late 1930s to early 1940s. This is consistent with a Type 1 original print, developed contemporaneously with when the photo was taken, circa late 1930s. Condition Fair to good antique condition.
