MIRIAM HASKELL 40'S 2-PC SET: LIPSTICK RED COFFEE BEAN GLASS BEADS GILT BRASS For your consideration, a rare and exquisitely beautiful string/strand rope necklace and matching dangle earrings designed and handmade for Miriam Haskell CIRCA 1940’s.    This particular design with the bright lipstick red opaque coffee bead   and ovoid swirl art glass beads were quite popular in the 30’s and 40’s.     The talented Mr. Frank Hess was head designer during this period of time. The necklace is a strand string of  art glass beads.    Some of the beads are coffee bean shaped, some ovoid swirl, small round beads   and small cut tube beads.   The beads are enhanced by gold gilt raw brass diamond cut spacer beads.   The ovoid beads each have a scalloped edge gold gilt bead cap at either end. It fastens with a round brass decorated filigree box clasp.   The decoration on the top of the box clasp is a floret of red rose montée and a single red nugget glass bead in the center.    The underside of the box clasp is signed “ MIRIAM HASKELL ".     The necklace is not quite opera length but a bit longer than matinee length. It will go around the neck twice to be worn as a choker ONLY  if your neck measurement is no more than 14”.   The   earrings are made of gold gilt brass, each with a three dangles of  coffee bean, raw   brass diamond cut spacer beads and cut tube beads similar to the necklace.     The head of each earrings is a 3-D gold gilt brass lattice flower design with lipstick red nugget bead in the center.    All the beads and gold gilt brass findings are hand wired and attached to a gold gilt filigree brass base.    The earrings are designed to be worn on the ear lobe.   They fasten with small paddle back clips.    These clip backs are  not adjustable, but fit securely. Both earrings are signed “ MIRIAM HASKELL ”  on the clip backs. The beads and brass accents used in construction of the necklace and earrings are of the best quality and contribute to the smooth finish, exquisite beauty and well preserved condition of the jewelry.   These art glass beads and brass findings were most likely sourced from Europe or Japan.      The set is simply beautiful to handle and wear.  The expert craftsmanship and care put into construction of this set is obvious.  The material and construction of this set has facilitated its longevity and if gently worn and carefully stored, It will continue to appreciate  in value over the years.   DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT : The weight & dimensions   of the pieces are approximate.    The beads in the earrings and necklace are approximately, 10 x 8mm,  15 x 8,   5mm and 3 x 3mm.   Necklace  ~ 28”L with a weighs    42 grams.  Earrings  ~ 1¾”L.  The earring head is 1" in diameter x ½” in thickness.   Each earring weighs 6 grams. CONDITION : Please note this is pre-owned vintage jewelry.  It was purchased from the original owner in an estate sale of a collector in Florida in 2000.  The necklace and earrings look to have been gently worn, and is  well preserved in pristine vintage condition.   It has been in storage in a dust free temperature controlled climate since I purchased it.    I have closely examined the pieces.   The glass beads are all in well preserved condition, no bruises, chips or cracks noticed.    The gold crystal montée of the earrings are all sparkly and bright, none missing or damaged.  The brass findings of the earrings and necklace are  tarnished with a Russian gold hue.  There are no lose wires.  No damaged beads.  The clip backs work properly and fasten securely to the ear lobe.  The threading of the necklace has no fraying or stretching. The box clasp and clip backs all fasten securely. The only noticeable issue is that the brass findings are all slightly tarnished however, nothing distracting or obtrusive and it adds to the vintage charm of the set.  I cannot find any major flaws on the necklace, or either earring,   however ,  please take a look at the pictures as I may have missed something.    Additionally, please remember this is vintage jewelry which has been worn, it may have flaws I have not noticed, however, I believe you will be pleased with purchase even more when you see how well preserved and lovely  the colors are.  MOST VINTAGE PIECES ARE FRAGILE DUE TO AGE and should be gently worn  and  handled with care .   NOTE:    These are part of my personal collection of vintage costume jewelry by Miriam Haskell. It has been in storage for years and may need a small amount of cleaning. Most of my Haskell pieces have been gently worn, a few are unworn.
