From childhood he grew up surrounded by paintings, painters, and art lovers, and in this environment his natural inclination toward painting was born and flourished. He showed innate talent and, at the age of twelve, painted his first work. He attended the Liceo Artistico, where he graduated, and the Accademia di Belle Arti of Naples, though he remained essentially self-taught. In 1964, at his first exhibition at just sixteen, he won the Coppa Amalfi ’64 at the National Figurative Art Exhibition of Amalfi. A versatile painter, he loved painting from life, and his favorite subjects were landscapes—especially corners of Naples painted in small formats, which he, as a “street painter,” preferred, almost like a modern painter of gouaches. In Naples he had a studio at Via Giacinto Gigante 34. He exhibited in several Neapolitan art galleries, including “La Lucerna,” “La Bianchi d’Espìnosa & Rossato,” “La Mediterranea,” and “La Giordano.” In 1981, one year before his death at only 34, the monograph Aldo Conte by Raffaele Rubino was published by the Istituto Grafico Editoriale Italiano. He painted landscapes of the Amalfi Coast, Ischia, and Procida. In the early 1970s he painted views of Pescara, Venice, Florence, Como, St. Moritz, and Paris. In the last years of his life, he moved to Abruzzo, where he painted the mountains of Castel di Sangro and Scanno. Also beautiful—though rarer—were his still lifes with game and fish, and his portraits.
