I can barely see faint, maybe a utensil mark or two on the plate in the glaze looking at an angle to the light. I don’t see any marks in the glaze of the bowl but there are a few tiny specks of ash in the glaze from when it was fired in the kiln. This is a really pretty antique porcelain set of bowl on 3 ball feet with matching underplate and a ladle, made in Japan. It is a lovely example of Nippon decoration, with a sort of Greek key raised design and small handpainted pink roses too. The plate measures about 5 & 3/8 inches in diameter. The bowl is 4 & 1/2 inches in diameter and stands 2 inches tall on 3 feet. The 3 feet have a gold design on them. The set weighs about 8 ounces and the bowl holds 1 cup comfortably. The blue backstamp on top of the glaze is called the rising sun Nippon mark and was used starting in 1911 according to nipponcollectorsclub.com. The word NIPPON, was used from the 1890’s up until 1921. NIPPON is the Japanese word for Japan and starting in 1921 the US required the country of manufacture to be printed in English, so this piece was made from 1911 to 1921. This set is in excellent antique shape with no crazing or chips. I can barely see faint, maybe a utensil mark or two on the plate in the glaze looking at an angle to the light. I don’t see any marks in the glaze of the bowl but there are a few tiny specks of ash in the glaze from when it was fired in the kiln. For a set this old, there is not much wear to the decoration, except there is rub wear to the gold on the edges. There is a small 2 mm firing crack on the edge of the ladle, from when the biscuit was fired in the kiln. The glaze did not cover it completely, so it is a bit discolored. See the last picture pointing it out on the outside and inside edge of the ladle. Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look.
