This is a lovely antique Nippon porcelain mayonnaise (or dressing/condiment) set, a two-handled bowl with an attached underplate and its original matching ladle, hand-decorated with a distinctive four-leaf clover motif in soft green and gold. The set measures 6¼ inches across at the handles, 5½ inches at the rim, and stands 2¼ inches tall. The bowl sits within a wide, integrated underplate rim, decorated with a repeating border of hand-painted green and gold clover leaves connected by delicate gold vine tracery, finished with a beaded gold edge at the outer rim. A single clover sprig motif is centered in the bowl's well. Two gilded scroll-form handles extend from opposite sides of the underplate, adding an elegant, symmetrical presence to the piece. The included ladle is a real highlight: its bowl is trimmed in gold with a small hand-painted floral spray, and its long curved handle is banded in gold to match the set, with a scrolled thumb-rest terminal. The underside is marked in a purple/magenta "Hand Painted Nippon" backstamp with an "M" within a wreath, the well-documented mark used by Morimura Brothers, the Japanese trading company responsible for importing and distributing this style of hand-painted export porcelain to Western markets following the 1890 McKinley Tariff Act's country-of-origin marking requirement. This mark is dated by collectors to the broader 1891-1921 Nippon export era, after which "Made in Japan" replaced "Nippon" per updated U.S. import rules. Morimura Brothers would eventually develop into the company known today as Noritake. Mayonnaise/condiment sets like this one, complete with their original matching ladle, are considerably harder to find intact than the bowl alone, since ladles are easily separated and lost over a century of use, making a complete set like this a meaningfully stronger find for collectors. The clover motif is also a less commonly seen Nippon pattern compared to the more typical rose or floral designs, adding a bit of extra visual interest. Condition: Very good antique condition overall. There is some visible wear to the gilding on the handles, as shown in photos; no chips or cracks are noted elsewhere.
