These impressive vases feature exceptionally detailed multicolor cloisonné work with gilt wire throughout. Beautiful large matching pair of Chinese cloisonné enamel vases, each measuring approximately 15.25 inches tall. These impressive vases feature exceptionally detailed multicolor cloisonné work with gilt wire throughout. Large black-ground reserves depict birds among blooming peonies and other flowers, surrounded by elaborate lotus, scrolling foliage, ruyi-style borders and geometric ornament. The flared trumpet-form necks and pedestal feet are extensively decorated, with gilt metal rims and turquoise-blue counter-enamel on the undersides. Based on their construction, materials, workmanship and natural age-related wear, these appear to be early 20th-century Chinese cloisonné and may date to the Republic period (1912–1949). They are unmarked, however, so the precise date and workshop are unknown. Measurements: Approximately 15.25” tall each. Condition: Very good antique/vintage condition overall. The enamel decoration remains exceptionally colorful and attractive. There are small firing pits and irregularities in the enamel consistent with the cloisonné manufacturing process, along with normal age-related wear to the gilt metal surfaces. The broad metal mouth rims have several shallow dents/indentations and minor irregularities from age/use. There is wear and discoloration to the turquoise counter-enamel on the undersides.
