The cranes are individually outlined with fine wire and carefully arranged around the entire body, creating a continuous panoramic composition. Rare Japanese Meiji Ginbari Cloisonné Crane Vase A beautifully preserved Japanese Meiji-period ginbari cloisonné enamel vase of compact, rounded form, richly decorated with numerous cranes in flight among blooming lilies, flower buds and leafy branches. The design is set over a luminous textured metallic-foil ground beneath translucent enamel, displaying an extraordinary transition from deep cobalt blue and turquoise around the body to brilliant emerald green across the shoulder and neck. The crinkled foil beneath the enamel produces exceptional movement, depth and reflective brilliance as the vase is viewed under changing light. The cranes are individually outlined with fine wire and carefully arranged around the entire body, creating a continuous panoramic composition. Despite its cabinet size, the vase carries an impressive amount of detail, with additional floral ornament and a finely patterned border beneath the flared metal rim. The combination of the cranes, lilies, vivid graduated colors, ginbari foil technique and excellent state of preservation makes this a particularly attractive and uncommon example of Japanese decorative enamel work. Measurements Height: Approximately 5.5 inches Width: Approximately 4.5 inches Condition Excellent antique condition and exceptionally well preserved. The enamel remains glossy and vibrant, with no cracks, hairlines, significant scratches, enamel losses or repairs observed. The metal mounts show only light age-related patina and wear consistent with age. The natural textured appearance visible beneath the translucent enamel is associated with the metallic foil used in the ginbari technique and is part of the vase’s original decorative character.
