Vintage solid sterling silver medium-sized and sturdy (approx. 1 3/8" tall with bale loop and jump ring, ~ 1 1/8” without the ring; weight approx. 2.3 g) Orthodox Crucifix pendant featuring a Passion Cross design (a Savior’s Cross with sharply pointed ends symbolizing the Lord’s Passion). It bears a relief image of the Crucified Savior depicted according to the Orthodox iconographic tradition, with His feet uncrossed and with round halo around His head. The centerpiece of the Cross is encircled with symbolic rays of light that could symbolically represent Jesus as "the sun of righteousness" (Malachi 4:2) and His preaching, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness" (John 8:12). The bottom end of the vertical crossbar of the pendant shows a symbolic image of the skull with crossbones, or Adam's head. It refers to Golgotha (Calvary), the elevated site where Jesus was crucified, which the Bible says means "the place of the skull" in Hebrew. According to ancient tradition of the Church, it was also the burial place of the first man, Adam, thus symbolizing Christ’s victory over sin and death achieved on the Cross. The reverse displays Church Slavonic words of the Orthodox prayer traditionally inscribed on the reverse of body (Baptism) cross pendants meaning "Save and protect". The prayer reminds us that Christ the Savior has the power to save and protect a person wearing the cross from every evil and from all enemies visible and invisible. The large soldered jump ring of the pendant bears two punch marks, one of which displays the "925" hallmark indicating the "sterling" purity. It has been confirmed for the pendant using the silver acid test. Next to the “925” print, there is the "Maple leaf" with letter “K”, an official assay mark that was used by Kyiv city of Ukraine c. 1990s (highlighted on a picture). The item has visual vintage appearance with signs of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, scratches, dents, and patches of discoloration/patina.
