Based on the distinct stamp on the toe, this is a very early production model made by the Stanley Rule & Level Co. between the 1870s and 1880s. This compact model measures roughly 8-1/4 inches long and was manufactured without a rear handle, featuring just the front wooden knob. Key Features & Markings: Front Wood Stamp: Clearly stamped with "PAT.6912, BAILEY, STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO, NO 22 " . Front Metal Frame: Cast with the "BAILEY" name. Adjustment Knob: Original heavy solid brass depth adjustment wheel. Cutter/Blade: Stamped at the top with "STANLEY, NEW BRITAIN CONN, USA." Condition: This plane is in completely original, uncleaned antique condition. The wood stamp is legible. The brass adjuster turns smoothly.
