The cuts are beveled to add extra glint and shine.   Antique ABP American Brilliant Period HOBSTAR CANE Hand Cut  CRYSTAL CENTERPIECE BOWL  Very heavy- weighs 5 lbs 2 ounces  due to the large lead content in the crystal, a feature of the OLD cut crystal American pieces. Very thick crystal is almost .5" thick.  Size Approx. 11.75"wide x 2 1/8" high * please see my store under Vintage Glassware for two completely different slightly smaller ABP bowls Genuine circa late 1800s Quality of the cutwork on this piece is EXCEPTIONAL  Completely hand blown, hand cut crystal with bedazzling cuts that shine like rainbows with light reflecting off them. The cuts are beveled to add extra glint and shine.   Unusual pattern- a stunning cental hobstar set within a larger 8 point star with file cut points. 4 large oval loops form a cross-like pattern with caning, file, and stars within. Has 4 cut fans at even intervals near rim border.  Magnificent.  This piece looks fantastic from any angle and must have been cut by an extremely skilled artisan  Very heavy thick crystal, and well balanced Would be gorgeous displayed on a tabletop, or used as a very elegant jewelry, keys, or change dish. Would also be terrific as an over-the-top luxurious snack bowl, etc  Very good antique condition- would list as PRISTINE but for 4 extremely small, flat smooth flakes on 4 points along the flat saw cut rim edge. The flakes do NOT change the shape or tips of the edging- located along edges and are extremely minor, hard to notice- see last 4 pics.  Not sharp or rough. NO other damage, I've gone over this piece with a magnifier and can find no other chips or flakes. See all pics and use zoom, all size measurements in description. A magnificent bowl. Genuine 1800s.  Elegant and unique.   This is GREAT piece for a collector.
