The case is pattern 3-347, Geometric as described in "Nineteenth Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames" by Paul Berg. The paper behind the photo states the case was made by S. Peck & Co. Patent October 3, 1854. Dark purple interior embossed velvet is in excellent condition. The border around the photo is still bright red and the paper behind the photo is pink. The case is a 1/9 th plate and measures 3 5/8" by 3". The case is in good condition but does have a small chip the bottom corner of the back of the case and a hairline crack by the clasp on the front. The ambrotype is in excellent condition and is framed by the metal gold mats typical of the time.
