I am gradually selling my salt cellar and individual nut dish collection that at one time was over 1,800 pieces.  This piece had been in my collection since 1984 and I always considered it my best and most favorite Nippon salt.   It is signed on the bottom with the “Hand Painted Nippon” green wreath mark. A salt of a similar shape is pictured in the book 5,000 Open Salts by William Heacock & Patricia Johnson as Photo # 1444.  I see nothing this shape pictured on the book The Open Salt Compendium by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson An outstanding and very attractive little salt or individual nut dish. AGE AND CONDITION: Circa 1915.  It is in excellent to near mint original condition.  Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.  There are no chips, flea bites, hairlines, cracks, scratches, repairs to the porcelain. I see wear to the gold trim that is consistent with the age of the salt – see the photos.  It rings like a bell when I tap it on the edge with my ring.  Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is. APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS : The bowl is about 3.125” (7.9 cm) across and sits about 1.125” (2.9 cm) off the table.
