There is an inner blue and pink radiating star (made from 1”x3” diamonds) surrounded by a second set of diamond shaped feather-like, pieced points in a beige, brown and pale pink floral fabric (1.25”x3.5”). Handmade patchwork Feathered Star quilt measuring approximately 80”x80”. Features star piecing made from small diamond shaped pieces with a matching floral border and hand quilted echoing around each star and each quilt block. There is an inner blue and pink radiating star (made from 1”x3” diamonds) surrounded by a second set of diamond shaped feather-like, pieced points in a beige, brown and pale pink floral fabric (1.25”x3.5”). That is characteristic of the Double Feathered Star family. Then there is a third set of pieced points that are in 2 different fabrics - a solid blue and a floral blue 1.5”x3.5” - that complete the star. See how the size of the diamonds grow ever so slightly while it’s radiating outward. It is truly amazing. Then these fabrics are repeated on the borders. The outer solid blue fabric is also used on the binding, which was sewn onto the front and folded over and sewn down by hand onto the back - as binding is done with all good quilts. The background fabric on front and the backing is a beautiful cream colored cotton. I purchased this quilt from a gentleman in his 70s. He said his grandmother and mother were Quilters and they were most proficient in the 1950s. I believe this one came from a quilt kit that they purchased and made in the 1970s. I was able to buy all 9 of their handmade Quilts made from 1930s-1970s. Whether they bought the pattern and the fabric separate or it was a kit is anyone’s guess. But it is definitely quilt shop fabric and I believe it is 1970s fabric. Which would make it one of the very last quilts they made. It is all hand quilted. It is very well-made, as all of them are. It is in excellent condition. I don’t believe it has ever been used or washed. I see no stains, tears, yellowing, rips or anything except there is one 2”x4” triangle of cream background that has yellowed slightly. It should come out in the wash. see the last picture for a close-up. This is usually just oil from someone’s hand that has overtime yellowed while being stored. A little spot cleaner on this one piece and it will come out easily. I just don’t want to be the first person to wash this quilt. I think it should be the next owner. If you put it in the dryer it will get all puffy and looking like an older quilt. If you lie it over a sofa to dry, it retain the smooth look. This is a jewel of a quilt.
